Gambier Community Centre

It is Membership time!

Renewing, or becoming, a member of the Gambier Community Centre Society (GCCS) is one way you can support the continued presence of our Centre and the events that are held in it, each year.

  • Did you attend and enjoy the social events this year, like the Spring Dance with Bobby Bruce, Family Day on BC Day weekend, the great concert on Labour Day weekend, The smaller Chocolate and Wine Pairing event in November or the Christmas luncheon organized by Kate Louise?
  • Did you attend a political meeting, information session, Remembrance Day luncheon, yoga or go and vote there?
  • Did you know we have a small workout room c/w a universal set, upright bike, free motion rowing machine? Shortly, we will have a new treadmill. Annual fee is $50 with a membership.
  • Have you seen the renovated kitchen or the new commercial-grade playground?

These events and projects were all planned and organized by volunteers within our community. But, insurance, utilities, the water system, lawn maintenance and cleaning require money. A Single or Family Membership of $25/$35, respectively, will go a long way to helping us raise the $10,000 --$12,000 we need each year. Membership runs from January-December.

Willing and able to offer a bit more support? The GCCS is a non-profit, registered Canadian Charity. We will provide a tax receipt for any donation over $20. Donations in-kind are also eligible - perhaps a commercial range for the new kitchen! Monthly, regular donations are also welcome—and easy to set up in Paypal. You can also designate the GCCS as a “directed gift” when you give with the United Way at work. Our registration number is 133062158 RR0001.
If a cheque is your best option, please make it payable to GCCS and mail it to: GCCS, 721 Andy’s Bay Road, Gambier Island, BC V0N 1V0.

To use Paypal, select the appropriate membership or gym item from the menu and click on the "Add to Cart" button. To make a donation, select an amount from the list followed by "Add to Cart". History: It is not a stretch to say that the current Hall grew out of the ashes of the Anavet Hall located in Gambier Harbour which burned down on Easter Sunday 1987. After the first Hall burned down, there was talk about rebuilding it on the old site but it never happened - it was rumored that it may have been built on a road allowance! Instead, with 3.2 acres donated by Helen Negroponte, a large donation from the Anavets, grants from Go-BC, money from the Seniors Group for kitchen equipment and loads of volunteer work, the hall was built and dedicated on May 22, 1994. The large deck was added in 2005 with support from the SCRD. An Anavet memorial has been built in Gambier Harbour.
